The battleroyale genre took inspiration from the infamous Minecraft Survival Games. The Minecraft Survival Games took inspiration from the  Hunger Games trilogy. 

 

       The Hunger Games's author is Suzanne Collins. The Hunger Games are about a teenage girl named Katniss Everdeen who lives in a dystopian society in North America. In this dystopian society the capital takes 24 tributes to compete in a game where the last one standing wins. That should give you a good idea of the books.

      The Minecraft Survival Games is a mini game in Minecraft. In it you fight against 23 other people. That's the history of how the battleroyale genre was created.
